Narrative
Narrative
Officer Sheely 1467 and I, Officer Coblentz 1586, were working uniform patrol car 7. While on routine patrol we observed a blue Honda CRV (bearing Ohio registration HXY1925) traveling eastbound on Kenmore Blvd approaching 4th St. The vehicle came to a stop at the light and then initiated its turn signal to make a turn southbound on 4th St. When the light turned green the vehicle failed to maintain its lane and drove through the parking lanes to make a right turn. We activated our overhead lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop on Manchester Rd and Wilbeth Rd. Upon approaching the vehicle we could smell the odor of marijuana from the inside of the vehicle. We identified the driver as Justice Lane and advised him why he was being stopped. The front seat passenger gave us the name of Carmello Harbin with a birth date of 01/11/2007 which was false and was later identified as Angelo Nurse. The left backseat passenger gave us the name of Trevontae Thompson with a birth date of 07/07/2003 which was false and later identified as Thomas Anderson. We asked them if they had any illegal drugs or firearms in the vehicle and they all said no. We advised them due to the smell of marijuana we were going to conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle. I, Officer Coblentz, asked Nurse to step out of the vehicle. As Nurse was stepping out of the vehicle Officer Sheely observed a firearm in Nurses door and advised me to place him under arrest. As I attempted to grab my handcuffs Nurse then fled southbound on Manchester Rd. I pursued Nurse on foot and he ran across Manchester Rd. to the other side of the street and continued southbound down the sidewalk. I gave Nurse multiple commands to stop running but he did not stop. Nurse then ran behind 2265 Manchester Rd where I apprehended him in the rear parking lot. I placed Nurse in handcuffs and searched him. During the search I found a small baggie containing just over 2 grams of marijuana and a small baggie containing 9 pills of Oxycodone located in his left pants pocket. I then placed Nurse in the back of uniform patrol car 1. While I, Officer Coblentz, was chasing nurse Officer Sheely remained with the vehicle and advised the driver to turn it off. The backseat passenger Thomas Anderson then fled from the vehicle westbound. Officer Sheely advised Anderson to stop but he continued to run. Officer Sheely advised radio the description and direction of Anderson and placed the driver Justice Lane in handcuffs and into the back of uniform patrol car 7. Responding officers were able to locate and apprehend Anderson. Officer Sheely recovered one black Glock 17 from Nurses door, BTVX631. The firearm was loaded with an extended magazine and what appeared to be an automatic sear on the firearm. The firearm was reported stolen out of Akron. Officer Sheely also recovered a loaded Glock 19x, upper BRRK152, lower BRZF384, with an extended magazine and an automatic sear, under the driver seat directly in front of Andersons feet. Due to the design of the drivers seat the firearm could not have been placed there from the front. Nurse was read his Miranda warnings and did not wish to speak with officers. Nurse was found to have multiple felony warrants out for his arrest along with being under indictment for trafficking in drugs which places him under disability to possess a firearm. He was transported to SCSO on the listed charges. Anderson was read his Miranda warning, under Miranda Anderson admitted the firearm at his feet was his and he purchased it a week ago for $200.00 or $300.00. Anderson advised it was not a switch and is a backplate to the firearm. Anderson was also found to have multiple felony warrants out for his arrest, he was transported to SCSO on the listed charges. Lane was given a traffic citation for marked lanes and turn signal. The vehicle was released to the owner.
