On 10-23-25 I met with Jennifer Harpham, the University of Akron Director of Student Financial Aid. She gave me a verbal statement to the effect that the University of Akron had recently become aware of fraudulent student account activity involving approximately 20 former University of Akron students in the total amount of approximately $60,000.00. This fraudulent activity also included false FAFSA applications and possibly identity theft with the former students as victims. Harpham went on to say that UA staff has not completed their audit and both the number of victims and the loss amount may increase. Harpham also stated that this is a known problem amongst many other Ohio institutions of higher education and most likely the rest of the country.
